Cote D’Ivoire: Abidjan

Abidjan is the proper (economic) capital, a lively and interesting city and perhaps thanks to Le Vieux’s leadership, investment in public infrastructure makes it an attractive and quite green city.

A nice example of neighbourhood seating and planting in Cocody.

The city has some really interesting 70s & 80s architecture.

Like the modern and innovative St Paul Cathedral with a generous public space built in 1985.

The Ivorian flag is orange, green & white and people seem to celebrate the orange in particular, with buildings and people looking good in bright orange.

The national stadium, like so much else named after the former President, Felix Houphouet-Boigny.

We visited the very swanky Hotel Ivoire where there was a high quality wedding going on, wonderfully featuring the Cote D’Ivoire flag colours.

We had cocktails and burgers in the well known Bushman Cafe with informal gallery spaces and lovely rooftop restaurant.

Zoe and Rob, we’re continuing to enjoy your travels. Your Ivory Cost posts are bringing back memories -none of the buildings seem to have changed in the last 20 years! It’s good to see the country has recovered following the civil war. Stay safe.

Thanks Andrew, we really enjoyed our stay in Abidjan, a really interesting place & to us the architecture did give it a bit of a 70s/80s feel. We’re in Ghana now & having to rethink our trip as countries are closing their borders. Hope all good with you & Karen.
